HITACHI ROLLS OUT DESIGN REUSE SYSTEM BUILT WITH SYNCHRONICITY'S IP GEAR

San Jose, Calif., - September 25, 2000 - Synchronicity announced today the successful rollout of a design reuse system for Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT). The system raises the productivity of Hitachi engineers around the globe by enabling them to find, evaluate and download blocks of already complete IC design through any web browser. Synchronicity, the leader in managing the flow of design data in and between companies, worked with Hitachi over the past several months to configure an installation of IP Gear™ to their needs.

Hitachi is a global leader in electronics and to remain competitive will have to bring a succession of ever more highly integrated parts to market. Hitachi engineers realized that an effective design reuse infrastructure was critical to achieve the required design productivity. With the new IP Gear installation from Synchronicity, Hitachi designers can easily find and assemble existing blocks such as SuperH™ CPU cores, peripherals, I/O and different memory configurations to more rapidly make new products. For Hitachi, IP Gear also acts as a central reference and distribution mechanism for design libraries.

"After careful consideration, we knew that a design reuse system would be most effective if it was integrated with the tools that managed the development of our designs," said Yoshimune Hagiwara, general manager of the IP Technology Center, System LSI Business Division, Semiconductor & Integrated Circuits at Hitachi, Ltd.. "We already used Synchronicity's DesignSync to manage our design data and now we can easily register completed design blocks into the compatible IP Gear design reuse system. Hitachi design centers worldwide now have ready access through any web browser to the silicon IP created within our company. Synchronicity is clearly leading the way in providing this capability and we have been pleased with the rapid rollout of this system configured to our needs."

"Hitachi is one of Synchronicity's most longstanding customers, and we are pleased to supply this exciting technology to the Semiconductor Group, " said Dan White, Synchronicity's Director of Asian Operations "Hitachi has helped guide the development of IP Gear and we look forward to a long partnership."
